Daniel Caldwell

b.1962

  Dan's paintings have spontaneous brush strokes depicting subjects in a unique colorist /impressionist style. Dan's paintings follow his love for life by the sea and travels in Florida, Bahamas and the Caribbean.

“I paint in response to beauty that I see in everyday life and subjects I know.  I enjoy the creative process and the art spirit which compels the work. I try reward the viewer with a fresh style, and share the joy of this journey in art.”

Robert Henri the much admired art teacher at the Art Students League said in his classic book  The Art Spirit.  “There are moments in our lives, there are moments in a day when we seem to see beyond the usual. Such are the moments of our greatest happiness. Such are the moments of our greatest wisdom.”


Born:  July 4, 1962, Dan grew up in Miami Florida. He spent his formative years sailing, fishing, and diving in Biscayne Bay and in Islamorada, Florida Keys.  He started surfing at age 13 enjoying the emerging surf culture in the early 1970's. He pursued this surf passion attending High School on the rural Outer Banks of North Carolina on Cape Hatteras and on to college in Hawaii. While living the quiet life on Hatteras Island Dan developed an eye for sketching and painting the commercial fisherman, rustics fish houses, and wooden boats . There he also gained a heart for the coastal community and wetlands. In Hawaii Dan earned B.A. in Graphic Design & Advertising at the University of Hawaii, Manoa. He continued to hone drawing and painting skills at Honolulu Academy of Arts and was inspired by visual arts community there. Dan returned to South Florida in 1986 has had a prolific 20 year career as an art director and vice president in his family's silkscreen printing company. He has helped create and market imprinted sportswear to the cruise industry, major sporting events and art shows.  Dan has art directed H-Blue-O www.hblueo.com a progressive line of sport fishing apparel. He was awarded by the American Advertising Federation 1st place for a water safety campaign for Hawaii's beaches. Over the last 6 years Dan has moved his career into painting full time. His paintings are in private collections around the country and in the UK. He is exhibiting in Florida art shows and gaining gallery representation. Dan is married to Liz a loving wife of 19 years and they have three children.
